What is a Ponyhunter?
Sport favors the optimists — the go-getters and the problem-solvers — the ones who believe their best game is ahead of them and that a rough patch is just a gateway to a better place. The beauty of sport rests on the premise that it brings out the best in us because it demands every day that we try to be a bit better than the day before: smarter, tougher, swifter, kinder.
Here at Ponyhunters, we’re committed to bringing you the best — the best takes, the best tips, the best insight and the best analysis — from the sport of lacrosse and beyond.
You’ve heard the maxim: an optimist walks into a room full of shit and concludes there’s a pony in there somewhere. We’re looking for the pony: in locker rooms and on fields of play, from Massachusetts to California, at the youth level right through the Olympic and professional ranks. We’re searching out the biggest stories and the most compelling voices anywhere lacrosse is on the docket.
Who are we?
We’re mother-daughter duo Amory Rowe and Thea Salem. Amory captained her college team at Princeton (NJ) where she and her teammates played in three consecutive National Championship games and won the NCAA title in 1994. She was a three-time first team All-American and a member of the 16-player US Team that won the gold medal in the World Championships in Tokyo in 1997. She has coached at every level of the sport from U7 youth recreation leagues up through the Division I college ranks. Thea is the captain of her high school team at Middlesex in Concord (MA) and is committed to play her college lacrosse at Wesleyan (CT). Together we bring a veteran’s savvy and an up-and-comer’s joy to the project of reporting the best stories in the sport of lacrosse.
Come on in to the locker room.
